Edward (2) (1 Penalty)
Luke
Jack S.
We knew the pitch had turned into a muddy bog, but it had stopped raining and there was no way the boys on either team wanted the game called off.
Kick-off and the ball was rolled back, but got stuck in the mud!…great amusement on the sidelines and a sign of the challenge facing both teams. The opening ten minutes saw little meaningful action, as all players tried to adapt to the conditions.
A really well worked move gave Danes a good opportunity to go ahead. Kevin delivered a perfectly weighted pass and the Armada ‘keeper made an excellent save from Luke’s first time drive.
Ben dealt well with a firm shot and Chris and Sam both made important tackles to stop our visitors getting through again. Edward had a low shot saved and Alex came close with a left foot attempt.
Poor defending allowed Armada to go ahead, backing off and no attempted tackle made it too easy for their forward to drill the ball in.
Within a minute Danes were further behind, a fantastic curling finish, after a run down the left.
Edward was giving his all, covering every inch of the pitch, Dylan, Jack B. and Alex also worked tremendously hard in midfield.
Mitchell won an important 50 -50 challenge and then had an acrobatic goal attempt, getting on the end of a cross from Edward.
A free kick in a good position on the left almost brought reward when Edward sent over a great delivery and an Armada player headed inches wide.
A minute before the break, Armada went 3-0 up with an impressive strike into the top left corner of our goal.
HT 0-3 not a fair reflection of the play but the second and third goals were top quality.
A crucial goal in the first minute of the second half gave the Danes players self belief, Edward running through the middle and tucking the ball past the Armada ‘keeper.
Alex went on a good run and shot wide left and Armada then did well to defend two well delivered corners.
After excellent interplay with Jack S., Luke’s well struck shot found the net and Danes had pulled back two of the goals within six minutes of the restart.
Our defence was much more solid with Ronan and Chris both making excellent challenges and Joe S. and Mitchell pushing up well to support the midfield.
Edward came close to an equaliser with a shot just wide of the right post but some excellent defending from Joe M. was needed as Armada looked to hit us on the break and Ben made a good stop.
Edward was felled in the box and his penalty kick down the middle brought us level.
Ten minutes left and all to play for!
Armada regained the lead and all of a sudden we were on the back foot with Joe S. making three vital clearances in quick succession.
Was it all in vain? No, Luke won the ball on the left of the penalty area, his centre across the face of goal just evaded Kevin but Jack S. was in the right place to slot home.
Final score 4-4 superb effort and entertainment from both teams in the mud, most of which found it’s way into my car!
